algolytics

Social media has changed the way we communicate, perceive information and build opinions. In the seminar »Quo Vadis Social Media?« by Boris Müller we started a thought experiment: how could alternative social media platforms look like? How can we boost positive aspects and eliminate the negative?

Team: William Heiko Schmidt
Supervision: Prof. Boris Müller

Challenges

At this state social media algorithms create an unbalanced feed with a limited range of topics, perspectives and people. Because of »filter bubbles« we assume that everyone thinks like we do while forgetting the existence of other perspectives and topics.

algorithms dictate which information we encounter online

no empathy among different filter bubbles

our goal: to unify the filter bubbles

» A unique universe of information for each of us … which fundamentally alters the way we encounter ideas and information. «

— Eli Pariser

Concept

»algolytics« is a filter tool that enables people to regain control of what they see by eliminating the personalized feed. It provides a way to uncover influential networks and to comprehend movements as well as opinions on social media.

Empathy

bridge the gap of filter bubbles

Transparency

Comprehension

find contextualized information

Functions

view content from a different filter bubble
